Im doing a chaincase oil change for the first time on my 2014 m8000. The oil is totally grey/silvery in colour from breaking in the new aluminum bottom gear. What other types of oil can a guy apply instead of just the arctic true cat synthetic? Will a synthetic ATF work ok or a gear oil like 75w90 synthetic? or would gear oil be as well thick? Not certain with that aluminum bottom gear.

cheers!

Requite the 75-xc a endeavour. It will take an EP (Extreme Pressure level) additive to assistance with purlieus lubrication when the gears are meshing. Gear oil also will develop a dark grayness color afterward a bit of use. If you are not seeing a wear blueprint on the gear I would not worry about it too much.

why non but apply the true cat oil?
The Cat is most $18 for the less than 1/ii litre that it holds. Dextron 6 is about $7 per litre. I feel that if it tin lube the Allison transmission behind my Duramax it will do just fine in the chaincase. Besides use it in my diamond drive sleds.

Shell Advance Constructed Chaincase Oil (75/90 I think). $ten for 500ml at Canadian Tire stores (not every shop carries information technology though). You will simply need near 440ml of it. Make full to 3/4 on window.

Really its similar to a timing concatenation and gears in a automotive application. Why not only use 10w30 or a 5w20. Th ep gear oil is for exactly that.(Extreme force per unit area) The concatenation case does not come across those pressures, the 75-90 or any gear oil is fairly thick at a cold temp and wont start to catamenia until it warm up a bit. My business organization would exist the bearings not getting enough sliptivity over the chain and gears. The atf is a ameliorate selection in my opinion simply because of viscosity. Personally i apply the True cat oil for warranty purposes but later warranty probably 0w40 or atf. I accept used both gear oil and atf in the by and accept not had a chain case failure to engagement.

It ever baffles me when people say gear oil doesn't flow at low temps....everybody hauls their sleds with a truck that has this oil in the diffs without issue
Exactly

Now Mabe upwards in alaska at minus tuktiyuktuk gear oil is besides think, but most mountain riding is 0 to - x at start of day, I'm fine with gear oil, never had a result

And become lots of km on chains before replacing them

Information technology e'er baffles me when people say gear oil doesn't menses at low temps....everybody hauls their sleds with a truck that has this oil in the diffs without consequence
information technology should bamboozle you lot it is a uncomplicated fact it does not flow skillful until information technology warms up its called viscosity. I never said it was bad and i have used it in the past just not my first pick. Your diff is designed for gear oil use and is filled to the appropriate level no issues.
